ROYAL VISIT 2010

On 3rd March the Duchess of Gloucester visited the School to join us in the commemoration of the arrival of the first pupil at the Orphan Working School 250 years ago. The Duchess attended a service in Chapel followed by a meeting with pupils past and present who were 'Foundationers' at the School.

The Service was also attended by The Mayor and Mayoress of Reigate and Banstead, the High Sheriff of Surrey, Councillor Peter Martin (Cabinet Member Surrey County Council), current pupils, staff, Governors and Old Scholars. There was a display of dance to the Michael Jackson song 'Can you Feel It?' and prefects read a roll call of the first pupils admitted to the school 250 year ago.

After the commemoration service and lunch, tours of the school and boarding houses were arranged and our visitors enjoyed meeting the pupils who were their 'tour guides'. The original registers were on display in Gatton Hall and they showed names of the first pupils enrolled at the Orphan Working School 250 years ago.
